READ ANOTHER TESTIMONIAL
I‘ve been playing lead guitar in a 4-piece classic rock cover band for about 3-1/2 years; it’s become my “Act 2” after retirement. The last time I played in a gigging band was back in college, a LOOONG time ago! The other guys in the band are also retired or almost retired and we’re not in this for the money (good thing, too!).
The band is called Love Medicine and we’re in southeast Florida (in and around Jupiter).
This is my current pedalboard, on a Pedaltrain Classic Jr. with a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus mounted underneath. (24v power supply for the on-board Quilter amp is also mounted underneath.)
In signal chain order:
- Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah
Only used on a couple of songs. For some reason, audiences love wah pedals.
- TC Electronic Polytune 3
- PRS Mary Cries optical compressor
This is a recent addition to the board, having replaced my older Electro Harmonix Soul Preacher. I LOVE the new compressor; it’s completely transparent, and I leave it on all the time.
- Nobels ODR-1 natural overdrive
I have the ODR-1 dialed in for when I need to push the amp into overdrive territory
- Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini overdrive
I use my Tube Screamer as a clean boost. (Sometimes I’ll use the ODR-1 and Tube Screamer together.)
- Quilter Superblock UK
Another recent addition, replacing my older Quilter InterBlock 45. I’m a big fan of Quilter amplifiers; I also have a MicroPro Mach 2 8” combo amp, a 101R, and several Quilter cabinets. I run the line out direct into our band’s PA (Soundcraft Ui24R) and also run the speaker out into a Quilter Frontliner 2x8 cabinet, which I mic into the PA, and our sound guy mixes both signals judiciously :-). This amp actually emulates two different Vox AC30 models as well as a Marshall JMP, and I find that I prefer the JMP model for some songs, and the AC30 with top boost for other songs.
- In the FX loop:
- MXR analog chorus
Used on a couple songs where I need a chorus / tremolo effect
- Atlantic NUX reverb / delay
This is a GREAT pedal at a great price. I’ve got it configured to apply the delay first, and then the reverb. I actually rarely use the delay now that we have a sound guy doing our sound; he adds delay via the PA. The reverb circuit includes a nice “shimmer” effect if you hold down the stomp button; I use that very sparingly.
This pic is from our rehearsal room, so you’re not seeing the amp’s line out hooked into the PA (for rehearsals, I just have it driving a DV-Mark 2x12” vertical cabinet). You’re also not seeing a Rattlesnake cable in this photo, but on stage, I use Rattlesnake cables exclusively, and as soon as the bass player and the other guitarist saw the quality of my Rattlesnake cables, they bought some as well, so now we ALL use Rattlesnakes on stage!
About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.
All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!
You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.
