"Snake Head," as we like to call them, is a cable with the heat and abrasion-resistant sleeving stopping short at the end connecting to the instrument. This technique leaves a portion of raw cable touching the instrument, perfect for wrapping around guitar straps. Our Snake Head Instrument Cables come in 10', 15', and 20' lengths. Each cable can have a straight, right angle, or a mix of Neutrik Nickel plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available) - be sure to select the proper plug style connecting to the instrument. Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper, and mean green.
Snake Heads are ideal to connect your instrument to a pedalboard or directly to the amp. Suppose you're looking for a cable connecting from pedalboard to amp. In that case, we recommend our Standard Instrument Cable - where the weaving fully covers the cable from plug end to plug end.
A Snake Head is a cable that has the outer weaving stop short on the instrument side of the cable. This is a cosmetic feature, especially nice if you have vintage or sensitive finishes and you're concerned about the weaving causing wear on the instrument if you run the cable between the strap and instrument body.
No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.
The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.
A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.
Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.
When people read that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.
We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.

Thoughts about our Service:
Fantastic. Hank and the team were incredibly caring, efficient, and communicative throughout.
Ok, I wanted to gig them a little before commenting. I bought two 10' and two 6' rattlesnake color guitar cables. The 10s are for our 2-3 man acoustic gigs or small stage shows. For larger stage I would use the wireless. The 6’s are for a small practice space.
Pros: First the obvious: the website is excellent for information and functionality. Second the customer service is top notch. Emails confirming the order, starting the build, shipping, and to confirm the order is acceptable. Third, the whole process only took a matter of days between the order and having the cables in hand. Btw, the packaging is very professional. A+. Cables USA made to order by hand - A+.
Now the cables themselves, the pros and cons. Pro 1. The cables look great. Back when I started playing there were endless manufacturers and a rich pallet of colors of cables to choose from, just so long as you wanted a black Whirlwind. When our road guy opened my gig bag he saw something resembling a rattlesnake and he nearly hit the ceiling. He denies it was that dramatic. But it was. The laugh earns an A+ for appearance. Pro 2. These wrapped cables are STIFF. Stiff can be beneficial but not universally. Stiff means that these things are tough. I believe they will out live me. It also means they do not tangle. Signal cables that don’t tangle are worth their weight in gold. Now the cons: These cables are STIFF. That works fine with two ten footers on a small stage, from amp to pedals to guitar. For a large stage the 6’ or 10’ will work fine between amp and wireless base unit. (I don’t use pedals in that circumstance). But the two 6’ in a small practice space doesn’t work. The cables are stiff and unforgiving in that use. I put a single Jackson Audio two stage gain pedal between the cables in that use, and those stiff 6’ cables flip that pedal all over the place every time the guitar moves. Having it to do over again I would have bought nothing less than the 10’s for the tiny area due to the stiffness.
Overall I would highly recommend any rattlesnake cable 10’ or longer.
Great-looking cables with well-thought-out construction and insightful minor design considerations.

These are hands down the best guitar cables available in the market! The cables themselves are of the best quality. They not only work as I expect them too, they have a variety of colors and styles to suit your aesthetic and playing needs. PSA: Curry, and Mean Green GLOW under blue light, and that is a definite plus! I was just looking for a cable that I don't have to worry about replacing any time soon and instead I found a brand that I fully support and am impressed by. My only comment would be, if y'all had the option to wrap the ends of Curry in RED instead of just white or black, it would definitely look more amazing. I love my new cables!
Thoughts about our Service:
What makes Rattlesnake cables the absolute best is their customer service! A successful brand isn't composed of just the commodity they provide, but also the experience. Hank and the Rattlesnake team understand that! Everything about this transaction is stellar! The Rattlesnake team has left a personable impression that I won't use any other cables in the future simply because I want the experience Rattlesnake provides. I cannot recommend them enough!
