Snake Head Rattlesnake Instrument Cable.

Snake Head Rattlesnake Instrument Cable

"Snake Head" as we like to call them is a cable with the heat and abrasion resistant sleeving stopping short on the end connecting to the instrument. This leaves a portion of raw cable touching the instrument; perfect for wrapping around guitar straps. Our Snake Head Instrument Cables come in 10', 15' and 20' lengths. Each cable can have straight, right angle or a mix of Neutrik Nickel plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available) - just be sure to select the proper plug style connecting to the instrument. Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper and mean green.

Snake Heads are ideal to connect your instrument to a pedalboard or directly to the amp. If you're looking for a cable connecting from pedalboard to amp, we recommend our Standard Instrument Cable - where the weaving fully covers the cable from plug end to plug end.

  • Conductor/Shield 99.95% OFBC
  • Capacitance at 20-25pF/ft.
  • Braided copper shield (95% coverage)
  • 20AWG conductor
  • Cable milled in the United States
  • Cable hand assembled in Missoula, Montana
  • SKU: SKU-B89074CB

Answer
A Snake Head is a cable that has the outer weaving stop short on the instrument side of the cable. This is a cosmetic feature, especially nice if you have vintage or sensitive finishes and you're concerned about the weaving causing wear on the instrument if you run the cable between the strap and instrument body.
Answer
No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.
Answer
The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.
Answer
A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.
Answer
Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.
Answer
When people ready that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.
Answer
We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.

So I've got a passive Bass Guitar. (Chapman MLB-1, first version) I was told a low capacitance cable would help the upper mids/high mids of my sound. Well it did more than that. I think of it like this. My old "higher capacitance" cable would alter my sound....like changing the harmonic structure so you just get used to how it sounds. You think that it's just fine. You read reviews and hear of some bass players who are satisfied with their old mid-priced high capacitance cable and other bass players who try out a low capacitance cable and rave about the sound. So I said to myself...... years ago I changed the speaker wire in my hi-fi sound system to what is now known as OCC copper wire and it transformed my sound system. I looked at the guitar cables that state that they make their cables from OCC copper and their prices are very high and don't have any STYLE! So I thought trying something mid-priced in the guitar cable range and low capacitance at that, would be worth a try. So I got a 20 footer from Rattlesnake Cable Co. I'd describe it like this: my bass overtones were realigned and made more clear. Yes I hear a big difference with my passive bass sound. Not so much in the volume going up but in the clarity of the attack and the structure of the sound. It's more clear, well defined, better attack, more satisfying. Am looking to buying more Rattlesnake cables in the near future. Even my mother's ears with hearing aids heard a difference! Oh yeah and I love the snake head end style as it connects to my bass too!

I have never really had a go to guitar cable. I’ve been playing guitar for 35 years and have always just bought whatever brand at any given time. Nothing to extravagant or expensive. Having an upcoming gig, I thought I’d get some new cables for my guitars. I had heard about Rattlesnake cables on The Guitar Knobs podcast. I thought now was a good time to give them a try. I sure am happy I did. The build quality is absolutely amazing.

Thoughts about our Service:

The customer service is phenomenal. Upon ordering you get an order confirmation email. Then you get an email when your cables are starting to be made. I ordered a pedal steel to volume pedal cable and I was a little concerned about the length being too short. So i replied to one of the emails and was instantly engaged in a conversation with Hank and he had me measure to insure the cable would be long enough and he even added a foot to it to be safe. The shipping was fast. Priority USPS. a tracking number is sent and I got my cables in a few days. The cables come in their own snake bags. Awesome !! I now have a cable supplier.

What was purchased:

I purchased some various lengths some diamondback rattlesnake patterned cables and even a blue one to match the faded Pelham Bluefinish on one of my Les Pauls
