Standard Rattlesnake Instrument Cable

The Rattlesnake Standard Instrument Cable comes in 10', 15' and 20' lengths. Each cable can have straight, right angle or a mix of Neutrik Nickel plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available). Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper and mean green. Each cable is fully wrapped in heat and abrasion resistant outer sleeving from plug end to plug end.

Our Standard Instrument Cable is a great cable to run between your pedalboard and amp, or between your guitar / bass and pedalboard or amp. If you're concerned about the finish of your instrument, take a look at our Snake Head Instrument cable!

Answer
No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.
Answer
The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.
Answer
A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.
Answer
Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.
Answer
When people read that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.
Answer
We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.

Testimonial:

I've bought a few instrument cables, so when I need mic cables, I thought of Rattlesnake. I purchased 2 - 20' XLR's and was not disappointed! The same excellent sound and build quality I've seen with their instrument cables. Fantastic! And they ship fast, but best of all, their customer service is phenomenal. Not that I have ever had an issue with Rattlesnake Cables themselves, but when the post office temporarily "lost" an earlier order, they had a replacement on the way the day I contacted them. Happily, the original eventually arrived and I was able to return it to them. Don't expect that level of service from some big 'ole company! Rattlesnake Cables out perform any other cable I have owned in 40 years of electric music. I'll never buy from another company again!

Thoughts about our Service:

Exceptional! They kind of response you only get from a small company with people who care!

Testimonial:

My bass came alive! I tend to use expensive cables with my rig, mostly Mogami golds and platinums. While these are terrific, the Rattlesnake 15 footer that I ordered opened up my sound and made it more three dimensional than I thought could be attainable with a cable. I guess the lower capacitance really allows the hi mids and hi’s to shine, and all while sounding completely full and balanced. Super musical. It’s definitely my new secret weapon. Well, not so secret now.

Thoughts about our Service:

Excellent customer service. The correspondences could not have been quicker. When you deal with Rattlesnake Cable and it’s owner, Hank, you’re reminded of how personable customer service use to be. Refreshing is the word that I would chose to describe my experience. It’s refreshing to have an awesome customer experience like this.

Testimonial:

I just got the cable, and it works. Honestly, I haven't had a chance yet to put it through it's paces or compare it to my Mogami or Vox or planet waves cables, so bear that in mind. First of all, the whole experience in buying and receiving feels like a boutique cable (b/c it is). Pick your length, you connector types, your colors, etc. I opted for a 15' TRS Copper, non-"snake head" cable. The cable comes in a box in a cloth bag like you might find with high-end dress shoes, stickers, a velcro cable wrap, etc. It's just so well put together and packaged - completely unlike buying your typical Planet Waves or George L or Lava Cables. The Rattlesnake cables seems to be almost the same as Caulfield Cable's Tour Series in terms of construction, capacitance (the Rattlesnakes have better capacitance than the Caufield Standard Series), flexibility, etc. Even without the 20% discount that you can regularly get, the Rattlesnakes are significantly less expensive, AND have better plugs. And there are the regular sales for different colors, even colors that you don't normally see on their site. It's a win-win! I bought this on a whim, basically. I found a blog article. Then I read up on the cable quality on TheGearPage (all glowing reviews). I compared to Caulfield Cables. Rattlesnake wins, easily. Half the price of Lava, better than Planet Waves, cheaper than the equivalent Caufield. These will be my standard go-to instrument, speaker, etc. cables from now on. And if they start making the MIDI cable variants that Caufield does, I'll switch to those too.

Thoughts about our Service:

I have not had to deal with customer service, but the discussions on thegearpage specifically call out their outstanding customer service. YMMV

I have tried many brands of 'boutique' cables for my instruments (guitar and bass) which had some gimmicks and promises of great tone. I saw an ad for Rattlesnake and decided to visit the website. After reading about the research carried out to create the cables, I decided to try them out. I was immediately impressed by the feel. I plugged in and took it for a spin, wow, such a transparent tone. Since I am the sound tech for our band, I am responsible for quality sound reproduction and these cables provide that for me. I have since bought several cables of various colors for all my instruments. Love the quality and tone!
