Pedal Line Friday :: Ryan H.

Ryan H.

I play bass and “sing” in a power trio kinda rock band called Primary Skull.

My pedal setup starts with a Boss tuner. Its main purpose is to keep me in tune and remind me that when something sounds off, it’s not the bass, it’s me.

Next is the GupTech A[[[ole]]] octave fuzz. It’s very similar to the Earthquakes Life Pedal. I keep it on for most of what we do, and for solo/beefing up/interstitial junk, I turn on the boost and octave. It’s fun. Everyone should get one!

The next three I don’t use often, but I try to use them sparingly or tastefully. Sometimes less is more. The Soundwave Breakdown from Death By Audio for making things sound kinda thin and frying, a way to kinda drop under the guitar but still be noticeable.

The EQD Organizer is mostly for fun because I love the sound of organs and octave shenanigans. Listening to Big Business has done that me.

Last is the EHX Bass Clone. I grew up listening to 80s music and it’s so fun to step into Joy Divison/Smiths territory with that chorus sound.

As for Rattlesnake Cables, I have patch cables, and amp cable, and an instrument cable. I love em, they’re great!

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.

As a sound engineer, I've used Rattlesnake Cables on various stages, for outdoor events, at remote recording locations and in the studio. They've been punished for years now and I have not had a single failure from one of my 50+ XLR and 1/4" cables. I know I can rely on my cables to work and to... Read

As a sound engineer, I've used Rattlesnake Cables on various stages, for outdoor events, at remote recording locations and in the studio. They've been punished for years now and I have not had a single failure from one of my 50+ XLR and 1/4" cables. I know I can rely on my cables to work and to sound excellent. We spend a lot of money on instruments, amps, microphones and preamps to create and record music with clarity and accuracy. An inadequate cable can reduce your investment in your sound to a noisy signal and stifled tone. Hank has taken the time to test and find the best and most reliable components to build an excellent cable and we all benefit from his experience and craftsmanship when we buy a Rattlesnake Cable. Not only that, but we support a company that truly gives back and supports it's local music community with donations and sponsoring events that enrich our community and create opportunities for our musicians to play. Do your music a favor and put a Rattlesnake on it.

They’re made in Montana, heavy duty, high quality and good looking cables and their customer service is an example that all companies could take a lesson from. The shipping is fast and the owner sent a personalized video message as well as a hand written note thanking me for the business.. A++ product and service!!
