Pedal Line Friday :: Pete W.

Pete W.

This has been my main gigging board for the last few years. I switch out the high gain and overdrive pedals from time to time, but the routing stays the same. I've been using Rattlesnake cables on all of my gigs for about a year, and they always sound fantastic! The build quality is awesome, and they survived the Texas heat and freezing cold on some outdoor gigs in recent months!

The signal chain is as follows:

1) D’Addario pedal tuner - very accurate and built like a tank.

2) Electro Harmonix Pitchfork - used mostly for octave up and down, or a fourth below.

3) Earthquaker Devices Special Cranker - used for a slightly overdriven or boosted sound. I'll also stack this with one of the other drives if I need a little more punch.

4) Lovepedal Zendrive - really great sounding overdrive pedal that I've had for more than a few years, built by Sean Michael.

5) Suhr Riot Mini - Hi gain, without a doubt!

6) Lovepedal Vibronaut - photocell Uni-Vibe for all the swirly sounds that I use. Extreme versatile.

7) Donner Echo Square digital delay - I bought this because it's one of the few delay pedals that has a reverse function. It has six other styles of digital delay, and all of them sound great.

8) Dunlop Volume Mini

9) JHS 3 Series Reverb - easy to use and sounds great, and the pre-delay stays on all the time.

10) Walrus Audio ARP-87 - tap tempo and Ratio knob are a huge plus, and it’s used for the dotted eighth note delay thing. Ii’s set to digital delay with no damping or X factor. I freely admit that I own a couple of these.

11) DSM Humboldt Simplifier - amp simulator with stereo XLR out capability. You can dial in a lot of different sounds with this pedal and it’s great for live gigs and recording.

The board is a Pedaltrain Classic Jr. powered by a Cioks Schizophrenic power supply, and I use D’Addario Custom Series flat patch cables for almost all the connections. At this point, more than half the gigs I play don't require an amplifier, and the Simplifier at the end of my signal chain has paid for itself many times over. Why do I have 2 delay pedals? Greater sustain with volume swells inspired by Bill Frisell. The Donner delay is set relatively low with a couple of repeats, and the ARP-87 output is set almost equal to my guitar signal. I will swap out some high gain pedals from MXR or JHS, and most of my overdrives (if not all) come from Lovepedal.

I've been a working musician in the Dallas area for over 30 years, playing corporate gigs, church services, and various projects throughout the years. Lately I've been focusing more on playing in a trio setting or solo guitar, and I plan to have some new music out later this year.

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.

Been jammin on my cable for a few weeks now, and have nothing bad to say. Though I feel like a dummy for not investing in a decent instrument cable sooner. I definitely plan on upgrading all my cables and connectors to Rattlesnake. Excellent quality, and sound, I'm eager to see how they hold up in... Read
