I will start with a rundown of my equipment, this is to set a foundation for my opinions on the pedals on my board. I feel it is always a gamble when you watch a review on pedals and the presenter is using modified pickups, or a certain style of amp, in my opinion this has a big tonal difference from what I play with. That aside here we go. My guitars : Epiphone Les Paul Plus Top, this is my main guitar I play it 80% of the time,No mods, works great with classic rock and harder rock music. Fender Statocaster American Professional, Ash Body, single coils, Again no mods, Much brighter sound. Amps : Main Amp, Morgan Amplification MVP66 Combo, secondary amp, Egnater Rebal 30 head with 2 1X12 matching cabs, older but works very well, great sound.
My pedalboard is an original Holy Board, purchased unfinished, you may recognize it from the pedal board photo contest a while ago, I did all the finish work to match my guitars, a cherry burst design.
Pedals listed from Amp to Guitar. MXR Clone Looper for all your looping needs, easy and functional, we go to the Catalinbread Topanga Spring Reverb, just a great sounding reverb adjustable from mild to dripping wet surf music, now the first of my overdrive options, I am an overdrive junkie, Analog Alien Bucket Seat OD, this is a desert island pedal, it sounds great with humbuckers and single coils, excellent sound quality, Analog Alien does it right, no we go to the Aclam Woman Tone, this pedal is designed to recreate the tone of Eric Clapton while he played in Cream, it nails it when used with my Les Paul, over to a Beetronics Fatbee OD, I prefer this OD when using my Les Paul when I want a nice warm overdrive set with a modest amount of gain, now we go down stairs to the lower level into a Supercool Pedals Thneed OD, I like this for some 80's style pop rock, The Knack, Elvis Costello & INXS to name a few, now we are at the Missing Link Audio Hot Lanta LE OD, this is my go to when playing my Strat, I love it with single coils, it rocks it up a bit, next we have Interstellar Audio Machines Octonaut Hyperdrive Eclipse, this is a very limited pedal based off there standard Octonaut Hyperdrive, it is packing some extra transparent clean tone as well as a high gain overdrive that is clean no matter how loud and hard you push it, this pedal is limited # 19 of 25 produced, My review on this pedal comes from the fact that I have a standard Octonaut Hyperdrive to compare to, next we have a Thorpy FX Warthog OD / Distortion, this gives me some great Led Zepplin tone, now we move onto another Interstellar Audio Machines pedal the Marsling Octafuzzdrive Fuzz pedal, I struggle with fuzz pedals, I love the sound but what sounds good with humbuckers does not go well with single coil, this pedal I like with my Strat, you get some Pink Floyd tones when dialed in properly, onward to a Catalinbread Sabra Cadabra, the ultimate Black Sabbeth tone machine, paired with my Les Paul it works well for everything Sabbeth, the final pedal is a VOX Joe Satriani Big Bad Wah, what can I say, it is a great wah pedal, 2 channel, all kinds of tonal options. This is all powered by a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 3+, all cables are 100% Rattlesnake, the best available in my opinion.
Thanks, Dan B, Lewisberry Pa.
About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.
All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!
You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.
