Pedal Line Friday :: Casey S.

Casey S.

Hey guys! Loving the idea for this series!

I'm a Montana native living in South Florida, rarely get to play anymore but build rigs on the side. Instagram handle is @schockcasey

Here's my current rig.

Starts with a Jazzmaster Baritone Partscaster, 28.5" scale tuned to C# standard plugged into a Rattlesnake cable that I de-sleeved 8 years ago when I tried to run a headphone extension through the same sleeving and ruined it. Still my favorite cable though!

Board is a Boss BCB-1000, pretty heavily modified with XLR output jacks and usb ports on the back. Underneath is a Morningstar ML5 loop switcher, a Strymon Conduit for midi control, and 2 Strymon Ojai R30 power supplies with a Cioks Crux for the QC.

With this rig I pushed myself to stay within the confines of the carry-on sized BCB-1000, while still having as many tonal options as possible. The hybrid rig with the Quad Cortex has made everything super flexible and easy to use. All of the front end pedals are in MIDI controlled loops, and all of the pedals in the FX loop can be bypassed and controlled via MIDI as well. On the back of the board I have access to an input, 2 expression jacks, 4 XLR outputs, and a USB port for programming the QC. There is also a standard IEC power input on the side.

I run a Dunlop DVP mini as an expression pedal to control a volume pedal block in the Quad cortex post my drive section.

Currently have the rig set up for Wet/Dry/Wet, but that can be easily combined to a stereo pair depending on the venue. I mostly play at home as a hobby, and church events when I can (I'm an AV tech so I'm usually behind the scenes). I built this setup to push myself and the limits of my board building knowledge as I start looking at a side project helping people rig build.

Everything wired up with Mogami Cable, soldered square plug connectors (right angle and straight, ts and trs)

Signal flow is as follows:
Input ->ML5 loops (Eons->Airchild ->Tumnus ->Halberd ->Dagger) ->QC (Ocatve -> split to W/D/W

Dry:Mesa Lonestar model ->Mesa 4x12 v30 cab ->very small room verb for a little space->output 3

Stereo Wet:Dc-2w ->Mesa Lonestar Model ->Mesa 4x12 v30 cab ->Analog Delay (1/4 note) ->Digital Delay(dotted 1/8th) ->Tremolo ->FX loop (Zoia ->Brig ->Cloudburst) ->Dual Reverse Delay ->Large Hall reverb ->Small Plate Reverb ->Shimmer Reverb ->Looper ->Output 1/2

Let me know if you want more details! Probably gonna pick up another Rattlesnake when I'm back home in a few weeks!

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.

Rattlesnake Cable Company is the real deal. Not only do they make fantastic products, they are some of the most genuine and helpful folks around (they handwrite notes for every purchase for goodness sakes!). I have purchased speaker cables, standard cables, and patch cables and have been impressed with the craftsmanship and sound quality. Recently, I asked Hank if he could fulfill a custom cable order and he jumped right on it. He was able to make four custom-length patch cables with electrosockets on one end, and they turned out great! I can't say enough great things about Rattlesnake Cable Company!
