Pedal Line Friday :: Steeley S.

Steeley S.

Hey guys, love your cables and I love the pedalline Friday posts you do too!

Here is my humble little board. I primarily use this running directly to FoH for a local church I play bass with. It is powered by a Cioks DC7 which gives great isolated power and can run quite a bit by itself.

My routing on the board is straight forward being right to left in order.

Peterson Mini Tuner>Jam Pedals Bass Rattler>Effectrode PC-2A Optical Compressor>Tone Hammer>Sushi Box Neptunium

My chain starts with a Peterson Mini Tuner. One really handy feature is it can be powered via a USB-C cable and the Cioks DC7 has a spot to power via USB. This saves you an additional power slot.

Next I run into a JAM Pedals Bass Rattler which is their take on the infamous Rat Circuit. It is designed around bass players in the fact that you don't lose low end which can still be harder to find in distortion pedals. It has a lot of variety but I use it as an always on low gain drive, with a boost to my mids. And then it has a turbo side which I can engage to ramp up the drive depending on the part I'm playing. I run it before my compression because that gives me more control on dynamics.

My compressor is an Effectrode PC-2A. Which is an optical compressor that also utilizes small pencil tubes. It combos as a tone sweetener and also adds a touch of tube warmth at the same time. I also love the two knob controls, very easy to dial in.

That runs into a Tone Hammer DI which has been around for some time. I was running the Tone Hammer 500 head before I went to the pedal format. I loved that I could exactly replicate my tone at home during practice and then just take my board to play. I run it with the AGS always on which really gives a nice mid boost and some grit as well. It also does an EQ roll off on the low and high end some say it helps add a bit of a closed back cab simulation.

That then runs into a Sushi Box Neptunium which is based off the Noble Preamp. It is a simple to use tube preamp with a D.I. output for going straight to front of house or a recording interface. It features a two-band tonestack based on the classic Fender/Marshall/Vox tonestack. Both controls are boost-only, so a β€œflat” response is achieved with both controls all the way off. I like to run both at about 50% but I run the Tone Hammer mostly flat. My main bass is a Stingray Special 4H which I also mostly run flat, but I'll adjust EQ with it's controls where I feel it is needed.

Hope you enjoyed my humble board, and thanks for all your great cables!

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.
