READ ANOTHER TESTIMONIAL
I am submitting this pedalboard entry on behalf of my son, Andrew Calvert. Andrew will turn 15 at the end of April and is currently a member of the band Salem, based in Preston County, West Virginia. They perform both covers and originals. He began playing guitar at age 9, and started performing in front of audiences by the age of 10. Since then he has played in multiple bands, performed as a solo guitarist/vocalist, and has become a multi-instrumentalist (bass, piano). In Salem he plays guitar, sings backups/harmonies, and writes and arranges songs. I act as his "tech" and put together his pedalboard. Here is a breakdown of what he is currently using in Salem in order of appearance.
1) Peterson StroboStomp tuner - accurate, reliable, the "Cadillac" of tuners.
2) Boss DS-1 Distortion - this classic orange stomp box has been a favorite of his since he got it as a gift.
3) Electro-Harmonix Ram's Head Big Miff u - used by one of his idols David Gilmour and gets the distorted fuzz tones for some of the punk covers Salem does.
4) TC Electronic Spark Mini-Boost - small, but mighty, his vocal coach recommended this pedal and he uses it to boost his solos. Plus, it takes up hardly any space on the board.
5) ISP Technologies Decimator II G-String - maybe the most important pedal on the board and is always on. Bought this based on internet reviews as a reliable noise gate. It does a great job controlling his high-gain amp. From here, it goes into the front end of a Randall RH150 all-tube 150-watt head. Then it comes back into the ISP's other input from the Send of the amp's effects loop.
6) MXR EVH 5150 Chorus - used by his all-time guitar hero and he loves the sound for creating atmosphere.
7) Boss RE-2 Space Echo - the secret weapon of his sound. It replaced another delay pedal that wasn't cutting it. Great for mild to extreme delay, and for producing insane sounds when doing dive-bombs or yanking up on the bar.
8) Rattlesnake Buffer pedal - helps keep tone stable with long cable runs that we use.
- Everything is connected using Rattlesnake Flex Patch and/or Rattlesnake Custom length pedal cables. Pedal labels used for keeping track of the settings. He also uses Rattlesnake standard, speaker, and IEC power cables for everything else.
Editors Note - The labels pictured on this board are Pedal Labels. You can purchase these here now!
About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.
All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!
You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.
