Pedal Line Friday :: Nick N.

Nick N.

My doom board. Used predominantly with a Reverend Descent Baritone through a Bogner Goldfinger 54.

In order:

EAE Halberd-As an (almost) always on preamp. Useful buffer, too.

Basic Audio Foxton (improved upon Foxx Tone Machine)-I actually predominantly use the standard fuzz side as a buffer actually improves it, and the Halberd makes it chug.

Ernie Ball VP Jr (Sonic Research tuner plugged into tuner output)

Jetter ODS-181-perhaps the oddball here, but it's arguably the clearest and tightest of D-Style pedals. Great timbre and dynamics. But most importantly, the next pedal LOVES it more than anything else

SUF Demogorgon V2-Odd for a doom guy, but it's the first muff I've bonded with. It's effectively a slightly tighter, slightly higher gain version of their Civil Unrest.

Smallsound/Bigsound Fuck Overdrive clone-one of my dessert island pedals. The original I had broke around when the builder went AWOL, so I let it go and replaced it with a (great) clone when they finally started popping up.

Mountainking Megalith

Hologram Microcosm

Red Panda Particle V2-actually used as a more foundational delay, a la Alan Sparhawk since Low's 'Ones and Sixes.' The unevenness of the RND setting bridges the gap between reverb and delay when dialed in right.

Eventide Time Factor-I haven't replaced this with an H9 yet because I fiddle with the knobs on this quite a lot. It's also often a foundational delay but backwards settings get used regularly and their final firmware update made the looper the most useful looper on any multidelay pedal (at least for getting weird). Great for freezes.

EHX 720 Looper-I don't really live loop with this, but a couple of our songs start with loops that last significant chunks of songs, so I have them preloaded. When I live loop on this board I'm actually usually using the Microcosm.

Mr. Black Bloodmoon-bought mainly for its full wet capabilities (though you can see it's not set there at the moment) as I like to stack delays more than using reverb pedals, and the Goldfinger has a nice reverb of its own. Still, it's a great sounding reverb and its more normal sounds are useful in their own right.

As you can see I also don't have any modulation. That's because I rarely actually like modulation pedals (aside from ring mods-I have a Fairfield Randy's Revenge on my smaller board and it's the pedal I've owned the longest because it's amazing). Too many cliched sounds and I prefer to use delays and pitch bending to get weird and psychedelic.

Anyway, my wife and I started a project earlier this year called Bonney Rubble. You might call it alt-doom. We just released our first single, our second one comes out in a couple weeks, and the full 6 song LP drops 2/24.

Thanks!
-Nick

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.
