Pedal Line Friday :: Daniel R.

singer-songwriter-bassist for the band Smart Barker

Hi Rattlesnake. You know I'm a big fan of your products, so I'm very happy to submit to you my pedal arrangement. This is a shot of my pedalboard from a gig (with SoCal cover band 80s Nation) this past Friday, 6 June 2025, at Mr. Peabody's in Encinitas, CA. Other bass guitarists may find this interesting. Of course, it's always a work in progress. Here, I have been experimenting with not using an amp simulator, such as SansAmp or the Origin Effects BASSRIG, both of which I have used before. I've also recently owned the PBJ preamp and DI, but it didn't seem to add anything. I'm now using IEMs, and no longer bring my I'm-too-old-to-haul-this-heavyMF-around-anymore 800-watt bass rig.

This is all pretty self-explanatory. I love the Peterson tuners (but also love my ancient Boss TU-2). The EQ pictured here is too extreme (I was just screwing around)—as the Whirlwind graphic EQ is pretty fine in its boosts and cuts. The Cali76 is the best pedal I've ever owned. The Germanium Boost is just a little something extra (I don't typically go for distortion, but it can do it). The Waterfall chorus pedal is great, but, to be honest, I rarely use it when I'm just playing for drunk idiots in a bar. I don't love the DigiTech Drop pedal, but it is okay for dropping just half a step—beyond that it starts to sound weird and chorus-y. In the cover band, we switch quickly between songs in standard and those in 1/2-step down. (Ideally, I'd like to have a second bass guitar on stage tuned down and switch between them—but the last time I brought two basses to one of these bar gigs, one of them got knocked off its stand and the headstock broke.) The Noise Gate is just to help keep noise to a minimum in between songs. And a shout out to Radial for all of their excellent products; when I decided to use a passive direct box, I only considered Radial's PRODI. And, in red, hiding underneath the Cali76 and the EQ, is my new Cioks DC7 power supply, which replaces a large Truetone block.

And, of course, you can see my orange Rattlesnake cable going into the tuner! :-)

Submit Your Pedal Line!

About a million years ago, I used to run a blog called EffectsBay. On that blog, the most popular feature I would run was Pedal Line Friday. This is where readers of the site would send pics of their pedalboard and a short (sometimes long) write-up of routing and thoughts about specific pedals and the reasoning why they liked it, etc. Readers. loved this. It was a great way to learn about new applications or techniques regarding pedals. It also brought a little inspiration and knowledge about pedals you were not familiar with. It also brought a great sense of community - people like sharing and absorbing cool things, right? It was a super popular feature, and I loved putting them together.

All you have to do is send a pic of your pedalboard (or pedal line - it doesn't have to be on a board) along with a short (or long) write-up of the board. We want a list of pedals (manufacturer/model), routing would be great, and, most importantly, why you use those particular pedals. Also, this is a great way to promote your band or musical project - include that information as well!

You can send the pic and the write-up to pedalline@rattlesnakecables.com.

These are the cables you want to get if you’re tired of the cheap junk that dominates the market lately. You’ll be able to tell the difference as soon as you plug ‘em in.. They’re made in Montana, heavy duty, high quality and good looking cables and their customer service is an example that all companies could take a lesson from. The shipping is fast and the owner sent a personalized video message as well as a hand written note thanking me for the business.. A++ product and service!!
