Junction Box is a way to connect two cables to make a longer run easily!
Why? Let me describe a couple of scenarios that I have personally experienced. Playing on stages that are longer than expected, where your primary instrument cable going from board to amp is too short. Doesn't happen often, but it is possible. Another example is when recording and wanting to run a longer speaker cable between your amplifier head and cabinet, so you have access to the head while the cabinet is isolated. Combining a pair of speaker cables can help with this on the fly.
We just added a new type - TRS / Headphone junction box. This is great if you're in a studio environment and need a headphone extension cable, but they are all being used. You may have a long TRS cable lying around. Attaching the TRS Junction Box, you can connect a pair of headphones to the box on one end and the TRS cable on the other, and you have a headphone extension cable!
Our instrument junction box uses a pair of 22AWG hook-up wires.
Our speaker junction box has a pair of 12AWG wires connecting the Neutrik mono jacks.
Our TRS / Headphone junction box has a set of 22AWG hook up wires connecting the Neutrik TRS jacks.
The junction box is small and is so easy to keep in your guitar or utility case. Select between instrument, speaker, or TRS junction. Please note, do NOT use the instrument junction box as a speaker junction!

Answer
The instrument junction box uses a 20AWG conductor, which is compatible and safe to use with any instrument cable - including patches, etc. The speaker junction box uses a pair of 12AWG conductors, which are beefy and can handle the higher voltages associated with speaker cables.
Answer
Yes, no power is required. Just plug in your cables to increase your length.
Answer
Sometimes on large stages, your primary lead may be too short to reach. Simply use a back up cable and you're set. The junction box is small enough to keep in your guitar case for these moments.
