Artist Spotlight :: Amanda Stewart

Bio

Amanda Stewart

Amanda Stewart is an American folk, country and pop artist based out of Bozeman, MT. With over 15 years of performing under her belt, Amanda is gearing up for the release of her debut album. Set to release in March, 2022, the 9 track, cross-genre inspired album illustrates her life thus far with songs about dealing with postpartum depression, love and struggling to make the right choices in life.

What/Who inspired you to pick up your instrument?

I've always been singing and performing. I was plugging away at the piano at a very young age as well. I just got to a point where I wanted to perform more, and wanted to write my own songs. My dad helped me pick out my first guitar, and then shortly after he passed away and I didn't play it for years. One day, I heard a melody in my head, and words to go with them that helped me sort out my feelings about him being gone. I wrote my first song that day and haven't stopped since.

What piece of musical advice would you give yourself if you could go back in time to the beginning of your musical journey?

Let your family (especially your poor mom who would sit outside your bedroom door every night and listen to you play) hear your music sooner. There's nothing to be afraid of! They love you and support you!

What keeps you excited about playing?

The feeling I get every time I start playing and singing. It's euphoric EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

Desert Island 3 pedal pedalboard (not including tuner)

Reverb, delay, boost. That's all I need baby!

When you find yourself in a musical rut, what techniques do you do to break out of it?

I read a book, watch a movie, go hang out with my girlfriends and hear their stories. Then I write a song from their view, extrapolated a bit to fit my own narrative.

Who is your favorite artist/band today? And who was your favorite artist/band 10 years ago?

Today: Michigan Rattlers, Jade Bird, Savannah Conley, Fleetwood Mac

10 Years ago: Fleetwood Mac, Death Cab for Cutie

Not much has changed. I'm still just interested in killer songwriting.

When you find yourself in a music store - what is your go-to riff when test drive gear?

I always have to sing and play "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac

What is your most prized/cherished piece of gear? And why?

My pedalboard. A dear friend of mine helped me piece it together. And of course, I am in love with my Gibson SJ-200… wait, my hot pink quarter-inch cables from a Rattlesnake!!!

What is the next big musical purchase you're hoping to save for?

I need to get new connecting cables for my board…. Would like to invest in some sweet stage lighting too.

Gear Breakdown

Amanda Stewart Gear

I use quarter-inch and XLRs mostly... looking to transition the rest of my setup soon. I love that I get a cleaner signal, and even more, the fun colors! They make great gifts.

Professional looking and quality! Plus Rattlesnake company is amazing to work with!

Made in the USA, strong, solid and beautiful. The main reasons I bought one. Plugging it in and trying it out convinced me there was more there than meets the eye. Rattlesnake Cable Company makes absolutely fantastic cables. The price for their cables is a bit high, but you most certainly get what you pay for! Rattlesnake Cable Company may be one of the best customer service oriented businesses in this modern era. I received video confirmation of my order and the thanks of the owner. They kept me informed of every step of the process that my cables were in until they hit my front door.

I couldn't believe I was hearing a difference, but it was there, and indisputable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Rattlesnake Cable Company makes absolutely fantastic cables. The price for their cables is a bit high, but you most certainly get what you pay for! I have 4 Rattlesnake cables, two so-called SnakeHead cables and 2 Standard Cables. All Rattlesnake cables have a weave surrounding the normal rubber insulation you would find on any type of cable. This "weave" is a sheathing that protects the cable. This weave not only looks great but is also a wonder to behold in and of itself. It's somehow both virtually rock hard but still flexible - so your can step on your cable, you can roll over it with your desk chair, you can drop something heavy on it - and your cable will be 100% fine! This is also where the difference between a "SnakeHead cable" and a "Standard cable" comes into play. The weave, being as sturdy as it is, isn't something you want rubbing the finish off of your favorite guitar. So the SnakeHead versions have about a 1-1.5' length of un-sheathed cable on one end, so you don't scratch up that beautiful paint job on your guitar. The Standard Cables are fully sheathed with the weave and are meant to be used to run from your pedalboard to your amp or whatever other use you may have for them. Finally, each Rattlesnake cable is hand soldered and made to order. For example my two SnakeHead versions both are 15' long and have gold plated Neutrik plugs on each end (as opposed to bare nickle Neutrik plugs). One has a 90Β° plug on the "board/amp" end and a straight plug on the instrument end and has a weave color called Sidewinder Red. My other SnakeHead has 90Β° plugs on both ends and has a weave color called Green Ivy. My two Standard Rattlesnake cables are 10' long with straight Neutrick nickle plugs, and one is white and the other is black. I use these to run from my pedal board to my two amps for a stereo setup. If you want true quality and reliability from your instrument cables (plus a few other types of cables they are now making, along with custom made cable looms) you cannot go wrong with Rattlesnake Cable Company.
