Artist Spotlight :: Scott Myhre

Bio

Scott Myhre

InComing Days is a five-piece punk/party metal band from Spokane, Washington.

Sure to make the crowd bounce with their unique blend of skater pop-punk and metal-core, InComing Days makes music for just about everyone.

What/Who inspired you to pick up your instrument?

My mother was a singer and played piano. We always had one in the living room growing up. I started playing the viola at a very young age. But then switched to guitar around 13 years old. The early 90s alternative and grunge were very popular when I was starting to learn guitar.

Bands like -
Nirvana, Bush, Silverchair, and Smashing Pumpkins were some of my early influences.
Then Bands like -
Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, and Alice In Chains, started becoming more and more influential in my guitar playing.

What piece of musical advice would you give yourself if you could go back in time to the beginning of your musical journey?

Practice, practice, practice!!!

What keeps you excited about playing?

The process of creating music with my friends, who are also very talented musicians, constantly keeps me wanting to come back for more. Being able to perform for people that enjoy the music is the proverbial "icing on the cake."

Desert Island 3 pedal pedalboard (not including tuner)

1 - Metal Muff
2 - Reverb
3 - EQ

When you find yourself in a musical rut, what techniques do you do to break out of it?

The first thing I usually do is listen to some different music than I have currently been listening to. I find that this helps me get into a different mind frame musically almost every time.

Who is your favorite artist/band today? And who was your favorite artist/band ten years ago?

Too hard to listen to my current favorite bands would be, but for the longest time, I was heavily influenced by Metallica. Early on, when I started playing better, I found that Metallica was very fun to listen to and play. It helped me become a better guitar player all-around in my early years.

When you find yourself in a music store - what is your go-to riff when test drive gear?

Something from my band, Incoming Days.

What is your most prized/cherished piece of gear? And why?

Baritone LTD Eclipse

Fits my current bands sound great; we play in Drop B. Plus, it has a Piezo pickup also.

What is the next big musical purchase you're hoping to save for?

Official ESP, made in Japan Eclipse Guitar

Rattlesnake has quickly become my go-to for guitar/speaker cables. Excellent quality products with awesome style, paired with top-notch service from Hank really sets them apart.

Big fan of the cables, especially the Snake Head feature. Great quality and great service, cables seem built for a lifetime of use. I have bought several times and the service is always great and consistent.

I was honestly a skeptic, and figured since I only use 10' cables for recording, cable quality would make little difference. I was honestly a skeptic, and figured since I only use 10' cables for recording, cable quality would make little difference. I always used cheap cables until I got tired of them failing on me and bought a 10' Rattlesnake cable and a couple of jumper patch cables for my effects loop. I was surprised to find that apparently my instrument cables had apparently been a significant noise source. The Rattlesnake cable was completely silent even with guitars I just thought had noisier pickups. In addition, the jumper cable I was using on my board apparently was draining quite a lot of high-end off, which I learned after swapping in one of the Rattlesnake jumpers. I ended up with a second order to replace all the patch and jumper cables in my setup, and a spare 10' cable. My new setup clearly retains more top end and is more quiet than I thought was possible. I didn't play a lot of high gain before and just accepted the noise when I did, but even high gain is no problem now. I'm sold!
