"Snake Head," as we like to call them, is a cable with heat and abrasion-resistant sleeving stopping short at the end connecting to the instrument. This technique leaves a portion of raw cable touching the instrument, perfect for wrapping around guitar straps. Our Snake Head Instrument Cables come in 10', 15', and 20' lengths. Each cable can have a straight, right angle or a mix of Neutrik Nickel plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available) - be sure to select the proper plug style connecting to the instrument. Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper, and mean green.

Snake Heads are ideal to connect your instrument to a pedalboard or directly to the amp. Suppose you're looking for a cable connecting the pedalboard to the amp. In that case, we recommend our Standard Instrument Cable - where the weaving fully covers the cable from plug end to plug end.

Please review the Specs tab for detailed specifications, including wire gauge and cable capacitance. Our Standard Instrument cables are milled to custom specs here in the United States.

Answer
A Snake Head is a cable that has the outer weaving stop short on the instrument side of the cable. This is a cosmetic feature, especially nice if you have vintage or sensitive finishes and you're concerned about the weaving causing wear on the instrument if you run the cable between the strap and instrument body.
Answer
No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.
Answer
The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.
Answer
A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.
Answer
Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.
Answer
When people read that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.
Answer
We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.
Answer
The weave is a poly-weave, meaning it's a plastic polymer-based weave. We use a variety of brands, but primarily TechFlex. It's designed to be heat and abrasion resistant. It is not a cloth/fabric weave, which tends to fray and stain easily.

Testimonial:

At the risk of sounding like an old man yelling at clouds, I miss the day of the local guitar shop where you could develop relationships with another human. In the online age it is really hard to find that. The level of interaction from Hank and the team at Rattlesnake was a pleasant surprise even though I only picked up a few pieces. I have purchased a metric sh*t ton of cables in my life, many that were more expensive, but the quality of these cables and the obvious care taken is off the charts fantastic. I have found my go to cable guys!

Thoughts about our Service:

This was my first purchase and the customer service was fantastic.

What was purchased:

A snake head guitar cable and a couple of speaker cables.

Testimonial:

When I started Ravenmocker, I wanted to form a team where everything from our gear to our production and everything in between was the top of the line. The idea was that if we found someone for each part of that formula, we'd always be in the best shape we could be in when it came to our music, live performances, and how we release things. Cables make this crazy musical world go round and it's such a highly overlooked component of everyone's gear. Rattlesnake Cable Company educated me on how much I had taken the literal core component of our live rigs and came to us with some of the most beautiful cables I've ever seen. From the guitar wireless units to my vocal mic, to our custom weave, to the cables we're running for backing tracks, Rattlesnake made everything incredibly easy and we're proud to be using them for our setup. Only when you remove them from the packaging do you realize what subpar cables have been running through your rig and practice feels twice as solid when you know the last thing going out is the signal.

Thoughts about our Service:

Hank and I spent about an hour on the phone talking about connectors, shielding, and the custom weave I needed - he made everything incredibly easy to understand and I can't say enough about the quality and ease of ordering. Will absolutely be purchasing again when it comes to some studio XLRs and recording needs.

What was purchased:

XLR,
1/4" instrument cables,
Shure Wireless cables.

Testimonial:

Custom hand made in the USA to your spec's, their own USA milled copper conductors, your choice of length / jacks / colors / coverings. Superior tone / sound quality. Like having an audio engineer in your gig bag cuz its Hanks own engineering & design. Hank set out to build the best cable because he couldn't find what he wanted. He suceeded. Look no further. I run older analog pedals & vacuum tube amps, cheaper cables color my sound, loaded up impedance & darkened my tone with or w/o buffers. Free flowing signals is where its at with good copper conductors & proper sheilding when needed. Im hearing the amps & pedals at their full potential at last. I retired my wireless. Say goodbye to cheap-ass cables forever. Get sum -

Thoughts about our Service:

Blown away. 100% amazing.

What was purchased:

3 x 25' standard cables
3x guitar speaker cables
1x 20' instrument cable
1x retro coily in red

I’ve been playing guitar for over twenty years, and in that time, I’ve always bought and used cables from places like Guitar Center. I never gave cables much of a thought, until a former teacher of mine enlightened me on just how important they are. Your cable is what connects your guitar to the amplifier after all, so if it’s not a good quality cable, you won’t get a good connection, you won’t get a good sound. I was on Reddit not too long ago, and saw Rattlesnake Cables being mentioned in the guitar related subreddits I follow. I did a bit of research, liked what I found, and bought my first Rattlesnake cable. Honestly, it is the best cable I’ve ever used! Barely any hum, the cable itself is heavy and solid, and above all, my guitar sounds amazing! It sounds clear and articulate, while the tone is so defined. It’s awesome to hear, how much of a difference a cable can make. So if you’re looking for a good quality guitar cable; American made, and American built, look no further than Rattlesnake Cable Co. Awesome customer service, lightning quick shipping, great packaging. I will never buy any of the mainstream cable brands again.
