The Rattlesnake Standard Instrument Cable comes in 3', 6', 10', 15', and 20' lengths. Each cable can have a straight, right angle or a mix of Neutrik Nickel guitar cable plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available). Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper, mean green, and snake weave. Each cable is fully wrapped in heat and abrasion-resistant outer sleeving from plug end to plug end.

Our Standard Instrument Cable is a great cable to run between your pedalboard and amp or between your guitar/bass and pedalboard or amp. If you're concerned about the finish of your instrument, take a look at our Snake Head Instrument cable!

Q: Are your cables directional?

Answer

No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.

Q: Should I purchase a snake head or a standard?

Answer

The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.

Q: Should I purchase a silent plug?

Answer

A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.

Q: Should I purchase gold or nickel plugs?

Answer

Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.

Q: What does oxygen free bare copper (OFBC) mean?

Answer

When people read that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.

Q: Where is your cable manufactured?

Answer

We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.

Q: What is the weaving made of?

Answer

The weave is a poly-weave, meaning it's a plastic polymer-based weave. We use a variety of brands, but primarily TechFlex. It's designed to be heat and abrasion resistant. It is not a cloth/fabric weave, which tends to fray and stain easily.

This is my second purchase from Rattlesnake Cables, a 15-foot cable that I will use on stage. My first one was a shorter cable, used in the studio for recording. These cables are absolutely indestructible! They also reproduce faithfully your instrument's True Tone. Great signal-to-noise ratio, obviously as a result of the wire and materials used in making these cables. And, the customer service is the best….and I’m talking about any company I’ve ever dealt with….not just those in the music business! And in these crazy times, that’s a tremendous statement! Just purchased my second instrument cable from Rattlesnake, another snake head in Sidewinder Red. I simply love everything about the product and the company. First, workmanship… you will not find a cable that looks better and provides the clearest single as these will. Not just new but two years down the road my first cable is my go-to for everything. Why a second cable? As my gear developed so did my needs. The snake head design is a must-have if you have high-end guitars and want to protect that investment! The ability to customize the configuration and connection choice makes the gear fit the way you envision it should. While all of this is great, Rattlesnake is a small company that takes pride not just in their products but in customer service. I have reached out to them with cable ideas and they helped guide me… before a sale was made. This might be the strongest kudos I can give that they understand what customer service is all about. Don’t buy cables from anyone else. Rattlesnake is home!
