"Snake Head," as we like to call them, is a cable with heat and abrasion-resistant sleeving stopping short at the end connecting to the instrument. This technique leaves a portion of raw cable touching the instrument, perfect for wrapping around guitar straps. Our Snake Head Instrument Cables come in 10', 15', and 20' lengths. Each cable can have a straight, right angle or a mix of Neutrik Nickel plugs (Neutrik Golds are also available) - be sure to select the proper plug style connecting to the instrument. Colors include red, black, sage, dirty tweed, blue, copper, and mean green.
Snake Heads are ideal to connect your instrument to a pedalboard or directly to the amp. Suppose you're looking for a cable connecting the pedalboard to the amp. In that case, we recommend our Standard Instrument Cable - where the weaving fully covers the cable from plug end to plug end.
Please review the Specs tab for detailed specifications, including wire gauge and cable capacitance. Our Standard Instrument cables are milled to custom specs here in the United States.
A Snake Head is a cable that has the outer weaving stop short on the instrument side of the cable. This is a cosmetic feature, especially nice if you have vintage or sensitive finishes and you're concerned about the weaving causing wear on the instrument if you run the cable between the strap and instrument body.
No, our cables are not directional. If you're purchasing a Snake Head, the Snake Head portion should be on the instrument side, but that only is cosmetic. The cable will work fine if plugged in any direction.
The Snake Head is only needed if you're concerned about finish wear if you have vintage or sensitive finishes like thin nitro, etc. If you don't care (or even want the wear) a Standard is great for the primary instrument cable. If this cable is going from pedalboard to amp, then it should be a Standard to ensure maximum protection of the cable.
A silent plug is not necessarily an "upgrade". Typically, a silent plug is for acoustic players who do not have the ability to mute their signal and would unplug their instrument. If you're an electric player with a Tuner or Volume pedal, then you don't really need a silent plug. Silent plugs are great, but they do provide another potential point of failure - so I always recommend, if you don't need the feature, purchase a standard plug.
Some of our customers swear by gold contacts. Some of our customers can't hear a difference. Gold does provide a better contact surface, but the signal improvement may be hard to notice. Some of our customers (including myself) just like the cosmetic look of the black shells with gold contacts. If you're in a humid climate and deal with corrosion, gold might be better for you as well.
When people read that, the first assumption is that the copper is somehow 'air tight'. Nope. OFBC is part of the smelting process where the oxygen molecules are smelted out or removed to a point where it's below .001%. This makes a very pure copper allowing for great conductivity.
We have a variety of wire mills that we work with. All of the wire mills we work with our in the United States. We take extreme pride that our cable is milled in the United States and hand assembled here in Missoula, Montana.
The weave is a poly-weave, meaning it's a plastic polymer-based weave. We use a variety of brands, but primarily TechFlex. It's designed to be heat and abrasion resistant. It is not a cloth/fabric weave, which tends to fray and stain easily.

I recently purchased a cable and RickoSound box from Rattlesnake and I was thrilled with everything from customer service to packaging and of course the products. The box was the sturdiest I had ever seen and would recommend it strongly.Great products from a great company.
Everything I've gotten from Rattlesnake has been unmatched in quality. I use a lot of cables in my setup, and switching everything out with the ones I got from Hank and here at Rattlesnake, I could hear the difference from the first note I played. I use heavy distortion, and I can get so much of a cleaner, more concise full grit distortion tone with these. It really does make a huge difference, and, the extra high end from the low capacitance is really welcome.
Not to mention, I had a TON of questions. I order two custom looms in sets of three, and they answered all my questions and have been more than accommodating in every way possible. Response times were so quick too, and the vibes were great. I most definitely will be a longtime customer to Rattlesnake.
Thoughts about our Service:
Absolutely great. Really fast response times, highly informative communication. It seems like they genuinely care both about the consumer and the reputation of their business. Couldn't get higher ratings from me.
What was purchased:
Two custom looms in sets of three fifteen foot cables each, three fifteen foot instrument cables (two snake heads for different instruments and one regular), and a speaker cable.

I've been lead guitar the last 10 years for Monica Robins, a kickass singer in Cleveland, Ohio. I use mainly two pedalboard rigs; a Friedman 1317 board for typical venues and a Friedman 1520 board for larger stadium venues. Using Mogami cables and zip ties, I put together homemade 4 cable snakes of various lengths. I always thought there was something better out there. Then I found Rattlesnake Cable Company, and just love their products. I ordered a 12 ft loom along with a 12 ft snakehead guitar cable for my 1317 board, and a 20 ft loom & a 15 ft snakehead guitar cable for my 1520 rig. Within 10 minutes of placing my order, Hank called me and went over specs & recommendations. I was blown away by that kind of response and he really knows his stuff, helping me put together these two rigs. Within a day my order shipped and when I received them, the packaging was not only done well, it was very attractive as the looms and guitar cables were each in their own Rattlesnake Cabe canvas bags. There were all sort of nice promotional items as well. I connected both looms and cables to both rigs and fired them up. Not only are the weave colors attractive, but the cables are super clean and quiet. This will make setup and teardown a lot quicker and easier. I am so glad I found this company. Rattlesnake Cable Company stickers are now on the front of both pedalboards!
Thoughts about our Service:
Just phenomenal. This was the best customer experience I've ever had in any industry!
Gigged 3x week and doesn't even look broken in. These are likely the last cables I'll ever need to buy and if they ever did stop working, I'm confident Rattlesnake would make it right
